Unlike most butterflies, the brilliant blue iridescent wings of the Morphos are caused by structural colouration, as opposed to pigments. Ridges on the surface scales spread or refract light, similar to a prism. The shape of the scales reinforce specific wavelengths while cancelling out others, resulting in the characteristic shimmering blue color.
This stunning Morpho Butterfly collection has been hand set and mounted in a museum quality deep box frame with fixtures for easy wall hanging.
The frame is 21 x 30 x 6 cm and made from premium quality acrylic and conservation glass. All specimens are ethically sourced from conservation projects around the world and help to support local communities and protect natural habitats.
